Carbon footprint offsetting – part of the solution
It is generally accepted that the long term solution in addressing global warming lies in human activity switching to clean and renewable energy production, using wind, solar and wave technologies. It is also generally accepted that to totally rely on this approach will take far too long, resulting in the predicted, disastrous climatic changes as forecasted by experts. The process of Carbon Footprint Offsetting involves two steps – first a calculation is performed to calculate the carbon
footprint that is to be offset, calculated in Kilograms of CO2. The second step involves buying carbon offset credits from emission reduction projects. Compliance Emission Reduction (CER) projects have already prevented or removed an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide elsewhere in the World, are Kyoto Protocol compliant, are fully certified and traceable, will have been verified by the United Nations (UN) and are a tradable commodity. As CO2 emissions are distributed across the World, it does not matter whether the reduction is made in Manchester or Mumbai, San Francisco or Sao Paulo – the positive effect on the environment will be the same.
